Heart Children’s Home

Heart Children’s home is located in Kasufini in Malindi. It is a home for 19 orphans and needy children. The children are aged between 2 and 18 year. Mama Lucy is running the home. Her aim is to bring up the children in a family setting.
In 2011 the home moved to its current premises.

The home is in a villa in a quiet neighbourhood. There is a nursery school in the home that is also open for children from the community. Although Mama Lucy has a lot of experience in working in children’s homes she appreciates advice and new ideas on how to improve life in Heart for the children. Volunteers with pedagogic skills or experience in education are more than welcome.

Possibilities for volunteers:

  • Help children with their school work
  • Child care, doing activities and taking children out
  • Assistance in the nursery school in teaching and to develop new materials, toys etc
  • Help in the day-to-day work (in the kitchen, compound)
  • Promote the Kenya Moto project
  • Help with defined administration work

Past efforts of volunteers were: assisting in childcare, pedagogic support, designing a website (still under construction), fundraising (see, agricultural assessment and advice.

Working days are Monday – Friday. Usually between 9.00 – 15.00 hour, but you can also choose your own time in consultation with the management.

Volunteers who want to offer their time and efforts are welcome. Volunteers can stay in the guestroom in the home. The guestroom has a bedroom and bathroom. You can make use of the kitchen. Accommodation costs € 10,- for one person/single room, € 18,- for two person/double room, including meals in the home.

Jethro Arts Everything was great and arranged perfectly and professionally. The contact by mail before we travelled to Kenya was clear and easy. The pick up from the airport was without any problems. The introduction day in Kilifi was great as well. Still thanks to Everlyn and the student who has learned us (a couple of words) Swahili. Special thanks to Cocky for her commitment and everything she has done for us. We like to do voluntary work with Kenya Xperience! again.
Echt top. Dit nemen ze me nooit meer af.
Elize van Dalsen My experience with Kenya Xperience! could not have been better.
