You are here: Home Volunteering At the project

At the project

The project manager will discuss your programme with you. There are a few things that you should keep in mind:

•    Get to know and understand the project and the culture first before you make plans for activities
•    Take your time to adapt to the climate and the culture
•    Realize that some of the projects have had volunteers before and that some of your ideas might have been suggested and implemented before
•    Realize also that contact between parents and children/employer – employee is more hierarchical than you might be used to in the Europe. Don’t try to change this. Respect the way it is.
•     “Working days” are usually between 8.00 am and 16.00 pm. But it might vary. In some children’s homes volunteers prefer to do their activities during the weekends.
•    If you want to go on a safari do this at the end of your volunteering period. Especially when you’re volunteering for just a few weeks.

Jethro Arts Everything was great and arranged perfectly and professionally. The contact by mail before we travelled to Kenya was clear and easy. The pick up from the airport was without any problems. The introduction day in Kilifi was great as well. Still thanks to Everlyn and the student who has learned us (a couple of words) Swahili. Special thanks to Cocky for her commitment and everything she has done for us. We like to do voluntary work with Kenya Xperience! again.
Echt top. Dit nemen ze me nooit meer af.
Elize van Dalsen My experience with Kenya Xperience! could not have been better.
